|Don Haynes was a gifted man who loved the theatre. He had extensive experience in designing and building sets, and directing shows. Don was the scenic designer for the 99th Street Summer Theatre shows for 33 years and for McAuley musicals for many years. Even when Don could no longer design during the school year, he was called in to advise and mentor new designers. Don taught the students more than set design as he would challenge their math and physics skills during his crew sessions. Always the teacher, he would often help the students with their English and Social Studies papers while exposing them to multiple styles of music, discussing film, theatre and all forms of art. He was a Renaissance man, beloved by generations of McAuley Theatre students, who even stepped on stage and performed in some of the shows.|
Don Haynes personified and believed in a strong Liberal Arts Education for everyone.
